23 Dec 2011 - Sam Hulick + DLC Composers Return to Mass Effect 3
The composer team of Electronic Arts' Mass Effect 3 have been announced. As revealed earlier this year, celebrated film composer Clint Mansell (Black Swan, Requiem for a Dream) will be taking the lead role on the project. His involvement is expected to yield creative shift in the musical approach of the series. However, several other composers that previously contributed to the series will also return.
Most notably, Sam Hulick will reprise his role from Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2 to maintain the series' sci-fi sound. He will be joined by Christopher Lennertz, a veteran game and film composer that scored the DLC Mass Effect 2: Overlord and Mass Effect 2: Lair of the Shadow Broker. Also participating are prolific electro-orchestral duo Cris Velasco and Sascha Dikiciyan, who previously worked on Mass Effect 2: Kasumi and Mass Effect 2: Arrival.
The lead composer of previous Mass Effect titles, Jack Wall, will not be returning for undetailed "complicated" reasons. However, he maintains that he retains a good relationship with developer BioWare and is currently working on other unannounced projects.
On the score, the series' executive producer Casey Hudson has noted that "Each composer has played an intricate role in delivering the combination of epic scope and delicate emotion that will make Mass Effect 3 the best game in the series.” Mass Effect 3 will be released on March 6, 2012 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. Those that purchase the Mass Effect 3 N7 Collector's Edition will receive a voucher to download a digital soundtrack for the franchise.
