15 May 2010 - Masashi Hamauzu Hints at Final Fantasy XIII Piano Collections
Masashi Hamauzu has recently hinted that he is producing the as-yet-unannounced Final Fantasy XIII Piano Collections. The composer has become famous for his expert piano arrangements on SaGa Frontier II, Final Fantasy X, and Sailing to the World. It is therefore not surprising that he working on a new piano album dedicated to his magnum opus Final Fantasy XIII.
Having recently left Square Enix to become a freelancer, Hamauzu has set up his own official site. Here he discusses piano arrangements and states that he has been working on the arrangement of a certain piano collection for some time. On her Twitter, Final Fantasy X Piano Collections pianist Aki Kuroda has also stated that she is going to "record an album for a super-famous game at [her] usual studio in Milan [...] with [Masashi Hamauzu]".
Square Enix recently confirmed that they are producing the Final Fantasy XIII Soundtrack Series. It currently encompasses the Final Fantasy XIII Original Soundtrack, Final Fantasy XIII Original Soundtrack Plus, and the W/F Music from Final Fantasy XIII LP. However, there are currently spaces for two to-be-announced albums, one of which is presumably the Piano Collections.
In addition to his work on the soundtrack series, Hamauzu recently revealed he was arranging an item for the Nintendo commemoration concert Symphonic Legends, to be performed by virtuoso pianist Benyamin Nuss. He is also working as a music producer for the singer Mina, who appeared in five pieces of the Final Fantasy XIII soundtrack, and plans to expand this collaboration overseas. He has also confirmed in an interview that he is currently working as a freelancer on an unannounced project in development at Square Enix.
