01 Mar 2010 - Garry Schyman Scores Front Mission Evolved

Front Mission Evolved

In a recent interview with Square Enix Music Online, Hollywood composer Garry Schyman has confirmed he is solely scoring Square Enix's mech action title Front Mission Evolved. His assignment represents the first time a Western game music composer has been hired to compose for a major Square Enix franchise.

Previous episodes of the long-running Front Mission series were developed internally by Square Enix and composed by Japanese composers such as Hidenori Iwasaki, Hayato Matsuo, and Noriko Matsueda. However, Square Enix outsourced to Californian developer Double Helix Games for this title. The audio director of Double Helix Games contracted Garry Schyman for the title after being impressed by his work on BioShock.

Schyman promises to expand the production values of the series on Front Mission Evolved. He composed numerous expansive and militaristic combat cues for the title, including a memorable main theme. Like his BioShock work before it, he recorded the score with a studio orchestra at Capitol Studios in Hollywood. Read more about Schyman's experiences on the score here.
