Round 3, Pairing 5: "F.F.VII Main Theme (FFVII)" vs. "The Decisive Battle (FFVI)"

Welcome to today's pairing. I imagine this will be quite tough for some -- I know what my personal favourite is -- so the results will be interesting. Don't worry, I'll be keeping an eye on the IPs. ;)

This better be the round that "Main Theme" disappears. The piece develops way too slowly for a world map piece, and I really find the melodic material pretty dull anyway.

"The Decisive Battle" is one of my many favourite FF battle themes. I love that syncopated rhythm, and love how the abandonment of it just sorta catapults the piece forward. It doesn't hurt that I love the melody either. Or the bass and drums for that matter. The hat part is stellar!

No question, Main Theme. It's got much scope and melodic touches and smothers me over in nostalgia (though it's got lots more going for it than that). For the most part it remains moderate in volume but I have to say it carries power throughout. The Decisive Battle is also pretty decent, though it's not a particular favourite on the VI soundtrack and it'd be a major injustice if I denied the other the vote. I know some people don't like the Main Theme so I implore all sane people to [-]check the first box[/-] dot the first circle. ;)

As much as I love the music of FFVII and its Main Theme, I'm gonna have to go with Decisive Battle. No doubt about it.

This was a hard choice... Nah, not really. I like the "Main Theme", but "The Decisive Battle" rocks. It's fun, energetic, and a tad epic.

Battle has an awsome melody and remains one of my favorite battle themes. However I gotta give my vote to Main Theme. Although it is slow, its development is amazing and it goes through a wide range of emotions.

What a painful pairing :(. After seeing mediocre songs duel it out in the first few pairings of the third round two of my favorite themes are pitted against each other. It's tough but in the end I have to go with 'Main Theme', it just feels more epic even if I don't feel the nostalgia that I do for "Decisive Battle".

Yeah, FFVII Main Theme builds too slow. Beautiful melody. But I'm more for the action that Decisive Battle packs. I love that song, trying to learn it for piano/keyboards :D

I'm going with the Main Theme as well. It was one of the first VGM tracks I stopped to listen to, and was the first one that got a compliment here at home. :tpg:

Main Theme is just too slow for me. I swear I saw the Energizer Bunny walking with me in the field as the song drolled on. Decisive Battle for me. It's a shame that it's losing though. It's one of the best themes ever written by Uematsu. Main Theme, on the other hand, isn't as good.
