Just like in the last pairing, treat this thread as if you are trying to sell your favourite track to someone. Really try to persuade them to vote for it! :)

Vote here (www.squareenixmusic.com/uematsu.php).

"The Castle". It's not even a question. If I wanted Strauss I'd listen to Strauss.

Bingo.....

So much more to be found in the Castle, I can't imagine it losing. Then again...:p

Again, I have to go with my home instrument. The Castle has some nice percussion in the "third part" (you know, where it starts with two harpsichord notes and what sounds like the gunshot GM sound). Nice melody in the first, moving part. And it's just powerful in the second. And the whole thing is funky. :D Waltz of the Moon is okay, I dunno. Nice melody. Not so appealing. Nice waltz. Not the better song.

Bah, two FFVIII tracks. After what happened last round...

Anyways, I'm going with Castle, not because it's better, but because I HATE waltz's. coughcoughWEDDINGWALTZcoughcough

If you know me, you'll know that I absolutely ADORE waltzes.

However, we're talking about "The Castle" here, which just happens to be all kinds of awesome.

Bah, two FFVIII tracks.

You sure hate it. At least you picked the right one. For the record though, it's heaps better and I can't see how you can't find some merit in all that's to be found.

Hmmmm...on one hand, we have a waltzy version of Eyes on Me, which in all regards, sounds better than the vocal version, but on the other hand we have a very interesting final dungeon piece, one of the best ones in my opinion. So the final dungeon theme wins with all its organ, percussion, and myriads (well, maybe not that many) of instruments.

Love waltz, love "Waltz for the Moon". But as Totz said Castle is "all kinds of awesome".

Agreed and vote.

I don't like the FFVIII OST much, it's just not that impressive. Sure, a few tracks stand out here and there, but it does not capture my attention that much. This gives me an idea, by the way...review of the FFVIII OST...awesomeness...

migglie

Surely we're not talking about the OST as a whole though...just the specific tracks? As for that [-]panning[/-] review, go for it.

Have to go for 'The Castle.' It just wouldn't be fair to Ultimecia if I didn't :p

Is there any page with all the contests and winners thus far? A bracket would be nice, you could leave places blank if you want future contests to be a surprise. Or maybe what I'm looking for exists somewhere? :o

And if you're not going to tell us future contests, all the songs that made nomination? >_>

Are you looking for something like this (http://www.squareenixmusic.com/forum/showthread.php?t=235)?

I like music that starts playing in your mind immediatly after reading the title. Waltz for the Moon is one of such pieces. Too bad it seems it will be knocked out this round.

Yeah, I guess that's pretty good, though it looks sorta...unkempt. All the bolds are winners?

And Hunter's Chance lost? Growl.

Wait a minute. Apparently Waltz for the Moon already appeared (and advanced) in this round, in pairing 5.

That's right, it beat Elia. Way to go Dave! That's two mistakes this round man!

Sorry for the mess up, it should be fixed now! Vote again!

I think I'm going to have to switch teams here. I really do love "The Castle", but Uematsu hasn't made anything like "S&M".

Argh, now I don't know what to vote for ;_;

Silence and Motion is sorta neat in an abstract way, but I still like The Castle better.

sorry the castle still wins.

Solartide

Indeed. The Castle I can listen through and not get bored, but for SaM, it's one of those that I skip to the middle, and then just go onto the next track.

"Silence and Motion" is just a masterpiece. Experimental noises with a boundless melody, it's one of Uematsu's all-time best, in my eyes.

"The Castle" is great too, but fails here.

Thanks Dave, you put two of the better tracks of FFVIII OST to compete, mmm this is a though choice, I love both of this songs and to make matters worse they're of 2 TOTALLY different styles, each a masterpiece on their own.

My vote goes to...

......

crap!!

Silence and Motion!!!!

It's just TOO original not to like and love, sorry castle

I'll go with 'The Castle'; it's in my Top5 FF VIII theme list, after the likes of 'The Extreme', 'Where I Belong', 'Succession of Witches' and 'Drifting'. 'Silence and Motion' is ok, but I think the piano version is much-much better. ;)

Chris

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

How can "Silence and Motion" be losing in such a terrible way? Its originality factor is just <3ness. For me, this round is devastating. ;_;

Silence and Motion is fantastically original, agreed. Cross-rhythms with silly noises is always good.
But I do love The Castle. Ooooh, so well put together, the counter-melodies working brilliantly, and that harpsichord entry. I think this is easily a competitor for originality. Weird percussion noises abound here as well, and wonderfully unexpected passing notes and progressions.
Yep, The Castle gets it here. Toughie though.

Just looking back at this thread and I noticed this:

"The Castle". It's not even a question. If I wanted Strauss I'd listen to Strauss.

Are you saying that "Silence and Motion" is like Strauss, Shroud? That's such a bizarre comparison. :o

Dave screwed up and had "Waltz for the Moon" as the other element in the contest earlier ;)

If I wanted Strauss, I'd listen to Richard. Johann can go rot in Vienna. Both of him.

The Castle (FFVIII) 76.67 % (23)
Silence and Motion (FFVIII) 23.33 % (7)

Silence and Motion sadly went. :(

I was too late to vote in this one, but it looks like this round was not as intense as the last one anyway. Sorry about Silence and Motion going down so hard, Chris. I would like to have seen it at least put up a good fight. :)
