Tuff choice, both themes I love and have really grown on me.
But since To Zanarkand is a piano solo, I feel it is greater to be equal to Gilgamesh which has an a variety of intruments (does that make sense?).
Nobuo manged to created a theme that works best as a piano solo. I'm not a fan of Hamaguchi's orchestra arrangment.
Very interesting choices. On one hand, we have a battle/character theme which will be remembered for ages as one of the most popular themes, or we have At Zanarkand, a poignant theme which instills the sense of memories (at least to me). I'm gonna go with Zanarkand although both are equally worthy to make it to the next round.

Zanarkand for all its charm remains painfully basic to my ears. It's effective at what it intends to do but when it comes to preference Gilgamesh is developed, fun and sounds great on the SNES.

I like both, but ". . .Gilgamesh" is Uematsu's most character filled battle theme. While he has many exceptional battle themes, none of them have fit their character quite as well as I feel this track matches Gilgamesh. It's at once chaotic, wily, and dangerous. "Zanarkand" I absolutely adore, it's such a beautiful melody, but I have to go with my ole buddy Gilgy, if for no other reason than that he saved FFV.

i vote for gilgamesh i agree whole heartly with the shroud it defenetly fits the character, to zanarkand is a simple melody that works really well but im more a fan of battles and i think it's so depressing and it only picks up very little.

Well, I don't mind "At Zanarkand," given it was a beautiful intro to the game, but do find it highly predictable with its simple diatonic harmonies and standard cadences. The only new thing it offers is a melody -- everything else has been done by Nobuo before.
Gilgamesh, on the other hand, is a complete unique creation with an awesome energetic feel, great melodies, and comprehensive development. It has the most flair out of all SNES era battle themes, IMO.

I love both of these themes. Zanarkand has a wonderful melody with the piano, but Gilgamesh is one terrific battle theme. Sorry, FFX, FFV wins this one.

Gilgamesh. Too bad the opening makes me bit impatience. the main theme and the progression chord is great though!

I decided to vote for Battle With Gilgamesh. It's so catchy and I can listen to it over and over again without getting tired of it. :) And I agree that At Zanarkand is too simple, even if it is pretty.
Battle With Gilgamesh (FFV) 65.71 % (23)
At Zanarkand (FFX) 34.29 % (12)
It looks like the Battle track got through. :D

Gilgamesh for me please! I know I've rambled a lot in my posts about how I like emotional themes, so I guess I've given the impression of a cheesy-themes lover :p ,but the fact is that I enjoy battle themes just as much, if not sometimes more. Anyhow, I think I will agree that At Zanarkand, though beautiful melodically, is too simple for its own good. I've stumbled quite a few times upon it, even without having played FFX, but it somehow hasn't grown in me yet. It's entirely the opposite with Battle With Gilgamesh though. I had never even heard of the theme before the Best Of Uematsu Contest, and I fell in love with it from the moment I listened to it. Gilgamesh is far more developed, catchy, and musically intriguing. That theme has character, and that is something that I believe no one can deny. I tottaly *love* that "jumpy" bass line and the organ! Vote! WOOT! WOOT! Gilgamesh!

I leave for a week and something like this happens. :| :)
Sigh. Oh well. Not happy at all, no I'm not. :(
