Easy decision, though I <3 both pieces. 'Rose of May' is sublime.

Rose of May is definitely superior. I mean, Eternal Wind isn't particularly strong melodically whereas that is Rose's major selling point. I do think Rose of May is somewhat overrated but it's definitely deserves praise, it's a touching piece.

On a side note, it's a shame "Disappating Sorrow" isn't in this contest. It follows the hint of fair medieval style that Rose of May does, but to me, it's more successful and original. *rant ends

I 'unno, neither of these hit me all that strongly. "Rose of May" is a bit on the overly sentimental side for my tastes, and "Eternal Wind" is basically about as standard as a piece could be. I give it my vote though because the ostinato doesn't bother the heck out of me, so I have to compliment that. I also get the sense that the B section would be absolutely gorgeous if rendered on a non NES synth.

Rose of May, always. Beatrix is one of my all-time favourite characters in the FF series, and to go against her would be cruel.

Actually, I've read a songlisting of the FF IX OST somewhere other than Squaresound - and there this track was listed as 'Loss of Me' - it's obvious the translation was a bit off (though sounding very similar - romaji problem???) - but the 'Loss of Me' version actually does match up in meaning to the theme itself... Strange, huh? :D

I've never liked "Rose of May" too much unlike most people. It's just seemed static to me, even when I'm not considering the initially 'lumpy' harmonies.

I'm not fond of the ostinato in "Eternal Wind", but it has cutesy charm and a great melody. It's second section is especially good. The DS version looks set to be even better.

I like Rose of May a lot, I really do, but Eternal Wind has ensnared me with its old-school style charms. Contrary to Chris, I like the ostinato, and whenever I hear the melody, I reminisce the Tour of Japan rendition. I just have to vote for it, despite the appeal Rose of May's sentimentality has on me. It's just too bad it won't go on to the next round, as by now ROM is way ahead, but since I like the winner, it's a win-win situation!:D

"Rose of May" to me, just seemed too overblown. It needlessly repeats itself, and never really develops or amounts to much. So, I'm voting for "Eternal Wind." I don't want it to go out, since old school tracks rock my world. :p I hope that DS version is going to be awesome.
