Round 2, Pairing 8: "Ronfaure (FFXI)" vs. "Vivi's Theme (FFIX)"

"Ronfaure". Vivi's theme is cute, but doesn't compare to the elegance of "Ronfaure", a unique and fine creation of Uematsu's that fits FFXI perfectly. If only Naoshi Mizuta could create pieces like that...

I never even noticed anything special about Vivi's Theme when I first played FFIX. Yet the first time I left San'Doria, out into the Ronfaure, I just had to stop and admire the music for awhile. Vote.

Ronfaure all the way. Vivi's theme is playful and adorable, but Ronfaure is simply awsome! I love its medieval style, and the nostalgia that this piece emanates has a lasting appeal to me, even though I haven't played FFXI (or at least not yet).

"Ronafure" is a charming medieval-esque arrangement, and I'm surprised I haven't heard it before. It's quite reminiscent of "The Place I'll Return Someday".

Still, I think "Vivi's Theme" has a lot more personality, and I have to give the vote for that.

This is a really hard one for me. Vivi is a theme I've always enjoyed, yet Ronfaure has been growing on me since I heard Hamaguchi's orchestrated version. Its finally nice to hear the original. However I have to vote for one, so I guess I'm going with Vivi. However I'm happy with either one going through, so I it doesn't really matter who wins this round.

"Longfall" was the original translation of the track, before the official soundtrack was released with the name "Ronfaure." Easy mistake to make, I guess. I too, voted for that theme.

Would anybody have any objections to me making the remaining pairings 4 on 4 again? I think that if we get through this contest quicker, things might get better.

I found the FFIX character themes to be generally weak, with the exception of Freya's and Vivi's. The latter has a certain sense of ingenuity that is hard to resist.

Still, "Ronfaure" for me. Uematsu keeps it simple, and creates an awesome piece, one I'm sure fits the game world perfectly. It's weird how I had never noticed how good it was before listening to Hamaguchi's arrangement, which makes it even better.
