Believe me, I am a big fan of RP's. So, I got permission from Chris, and SEMO is gonna have it's own RP.
First off, there is no poll, since there's WAY too many choices.
Second, my ideas were either some type of war RP, or maybe an FF style one.
But anyways, you guys think, and I guess we'll choose the one everybody likes and start RP-ing!
Note that when the RP starts, this will be the place to discuss everything about it.

Too cliche. RP's must have originality to maintain a fun factor.

Clichés are a matter of the content, not the setting. There are many interesting things that can happen in an old setting if the roleplayers are good. I'd much rather have this be a cliche war RP than a unique Harvest Moon-esque day in the life type of deal (with respect to the game, I do enjoy them). My advice is to make the premise as vague as possible without actaully failing to create a setting. Doing that will allow the motivations of the RPers to mold the setting, and allow each role player an opportunity to be creatively involved both in his person, and in his surroundings.
One thing: I assume not all player characters are going to be on a team. I haven't done these internet RPs in a while, but it seems it would make things a bit more interesting if each player was sort of his own unit, teaming up as circumstances necessitate.

Count me in!
Yeah, I'm with Nick. I've been a part of a couple different types of RPs over the years, and I'm curious to see which kind this is.

what is RP actually? role playing? how could we possibly play this on bulletin board?:s

It be just an ordinary RP (go here (http://www.squaresound.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4848) and here (http://www.squaresound.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4875) to see how SSF did it). At this old forum I was at, we did it like this:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
*Cloud unsheathed his sword*
Sephiroth, what do you want
*Cloud prepared for anything Sephiroth might do*
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
I saw the way SSF did their RP's, and I really didn't like that way. Anyone unfamilar with that style...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Quote from SSF RPG, "Requiem of Souls," originally by T.H. (Neo) Locke
They're looking for someone to blame on the war, some say they even have a list. Now how do you think they will view the refusal to sell weapons to one faction over the other?" Meva suggested.
"Alright, first of all, there is no war, and there won't be one! These are just a bunch of lunatics who have nothing better to do in this twisted world of ours! Secondly, that was an isolated incident, those fools proabably don't even know who I am apart from my history with the Abolishers" Sean clenched his fists as he shouted, angry and insulted by the implication Meva was suggesting.
The other stopped leaning on the display case and walked for the door, "I understand, Mr. Richards, just remember..." he held the door open and shot a piercing stare towards Sean, "...I have sources that can get very... VERY deep." With these final words, he closed the door and disappeared into the rain.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
The above RP style is more 'story-ish' if you know what I mean.
Please, if you have any more questions, feel free to ask.
Ahhhh, ok then, that's the kind of RP I don't enjoy >.< lol. Most of the time, the RPs that I do, is basically the novel kind. Where everyone has a character, and continues the story, but writes it as if you're reading a novel.

I'm much more in favour of it being done SSF style in the manner that there is actual role-playing, story building, and etc. as opposed to being an amazingly slow-moving MUD.

I think it should be SSF style as well, they've been taking things from SEMO so we may as well steal something to return the favor ;p
Well, we need to really get some specifics about it, but you may as well count me in for now :P If you need help with it, like organizing or anything, I'll be glad to dedicate some of my plentiful time.

Dark Cloud, I really wish you luck with this RP! They can be a lot of fun, but managing one can also be slightly frustrating to keep it going.
Unfortunately, I'm a tad busy with arrangements, the SSF RP, reviews, and moving to join in another one. But I really do wish you good luck, and if you have any questions or need any ideas, I'll be happy to put in my input.

If I'd get time I'd love to join in and flex the old creative writing muscles.
A longer, novella-type would suit me best, and allow me to drop in when i can, so to speak.
I admit to not quite understanding the process, also...
I have a lot of creative flair, but I'm not too sure what I'd be doing if I did join this little cult. Would I be taking control of my own character, or what?

I am short on time here, but tomorrow (Monday), I will write another post concerning all of your questions. Until then...

The SSF style example was not a very good one. It's really fun to read core posts and then revolve your own character's story around that. Take these two different posts for example. The first one was done by me, and since Lady Red and I decided that our characters would have a mental connection, she in turn, uses the actions of my post to affect her own character:
My post:
It was Johaness this time that rushed his mother, breaking through the barrier of intensified hate that surrounded her, but her senses were too keen now and she quickly raised her hand toward him. His pants caught fire immediately and he stopped. Then his upper garments, a tattered old jail thing burst into flames. His whole body was consumed in fire. He screamed in pain, and at that exact moment many, many things happened....
Lady Red's Post
Panic. Panic. Panicpanicpanicpanic. Fire---
"Dy, look out!"
Thought and sensation rush back with a vengeance, in the form of Lucius knocking her over as a stream of lightning rushed over their heads. "This is hardly the time to get your jollies on, Chief," she muttered, reaching out from under the man to fire at her assailant.
"And this is hardly the time to be taking a trip to La-La Land," Lucius snapped, rolling the two of them out of the way of another stream of lightning and shooting at the offending acolyte as he disengaged himself from his right-hand agent. "What happened to you back there?"
Somebody turned my brain off and set me on fire and I thought I was dead for a minute? "Doesn't matter."
She'd gotten good at figuring Lucius out just by looking at him, but the look on his face now was unreadable. "Stay sharp," he said at last. "Find that de los Reyes boy and get him to cover you. We've all but got them now, Dy." He headed westward, blazing gold in his path. Was that a note of concern in his voice?
"Lucius, wait!" Dy started after him. "Where the hell do you think you're ---"
Aneiko.
She stopped. What the hell?!
Everything was moving faster again. The seemingly-endless tide of acolytes had ebbed significantly since then, but all the same it was as if she was seeing right through them to the north side of the courtyard. Something was on fire; she'd attributed the smoke and the oily burning smell to her own bullets, but this was something quite different. This was a fully-immolated body, and a short distance away from that was a figure in black. Definitely the culprit. She'd never seen them before in her life, yet the strangest words were popping up uninvited in her head, the same way Juan's emotions did back in New York, but exponentially weirder. To the burning corpse, brother. And to the figure in black...

Ok, here we go:
Nick: Yes, it is a text-based RPG, where each person gets to choose his/her action.
Resk: I don't mind doing the novel kind, I was just saying the one I like better is the non-novel one.
Shroud13: Same as above.
Fareru: I'd love for the help!
Neo Locke: If you ever decide to join, just let me know.
jampot: Same as Resk and Shroud.
Dave: Yes, you'd control every action of your character.
I hope that answered everything.

Fareru: I'd love for the help!
Alright, well, you're in charge so PM me and I'll see what I can do to help ^^
Do you already have a general plot for the RP in mind, or is that still all blank too? I would love to help with the plot seeing as how I'm a writer and what not :p
Would the actions of our characters need to be linked to whatever else has happened? That's the one thing that I don't particularly understand: the whole posting procedure.

Fareru: I'll get to a PM sometime tonight.
Dave: Your actions depend on what others say. For example, since most like the SSF style, I'll say it that way. This would be a battle bewteen Cloud and Sephiroth.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Cloud (me)
Cloud unsheathed his Buster Sword from his hip, and prepared to attack Sephiroth. "I'm tired of these games, Sephiroth," he said. "Let's end this once and for all. In a split second, Cloud positioned his feet and charged at Spehiroth, and swung the blade at him furiously.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
NEXT POST
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sephiroth (Dave)
Sephiroth brought his blade up to Cloud and blocked his attack. "It'll take more than that..." Their locked swords undid, and Sephiroth jumped over Cloud and swung. However, all he saw after the blade had made its swing, was air. He heard the wind behind him. "What wind?" he thought. They were in a building.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
The next post could go many different ways. If you didn't notice, the wind Sephiroth could hear was Cloud jumping down at him from above. Sephy could easily block it, or dodge, OR Cloud could kill Sephiroth then and there.

I think the plot, if planned, should be minimally prepared so that the story is scupled by the characters involved rather than the characters being sculpted by the action - which tends to make the role playing far less fun and character based.

Naturally, thats how it should be done, but it does take a skeleton of a plot, otherwise you get nowhere ;)
Anywho, it's been decided that the RP will be done novel style, in other words, the same way as the SSF RP. So if you want an example, thats it :P
Next step is deciding on plot and what not, so I'll be talking with DC about that and we'll get things in motion, of course input would be appreciated ^-^
Edited since Poll was added:
I'm voting on Medievil, swords and knight warfare are always fun, no?

Yes, I voted for Medievil too. For anyone familar with the Fire Emblem series, it'd be sorta like that.

I'm the person who voted modern day. Medieval is so... unoriginal? Ever RP you read is either fantasy or medieval, frankly I find it corny. Modern Day caught my eye because its something I've never seen before.

Ok, since this is a site RP, I like it should be stickied, so if a mod could do this...
I don't see the need to sticky this thread, to be honest, since it's only a discussion of what we intend to do. Once you actually make the thread though, I'll see what I can do. We'll have to see how it progresses.

Also, this isn't the most active forum, so as long as there's a decent amount of participation, the thread shouldn't be too difficult to keep near the top of the page.

This looks interesting, sorry for being a bit of a late comer, just trying to spread my horizons on this site a bit more. I voted modern day, a bit more real and perhaps avoids some of the clichés of fantasy and medieval. I'll sign up if this is still going ahead.

I voted fantasy. I've never been really interested in role-playing modern-day things, unless there's at least a touch of the supernatural. I like to enjoy the fantastical, not the every-day. It's why I even role-play.

Anyways, until you guys vote, nothing will happen on the plot. Hurry up, Fareru and I don't have forever.

What exactly is meant by fantasy, would you class FFX's Spira as fantasy, or is that science fiction? Modern day would have to be some alternate universe otherwise it just becomes strange and too easy in a way.
Dark Cloud

Sci-Fi: Something like Star Wars
Fantasy: Something along the line of some FF games...
Medieval: Knights/Magic era

Agreed, a modern day setting without a hook WILL be boring.
