Round 1, Battle 29 Discussion (July 14/15, 2006)

Ending theme (FFVI) - 20+ minutes of goodness.

The Great Whale - epic like the rest of Uematsu's airship themes, but not as good as "Searching for Friends" or "Highwind Takes to the Skies," for example.

Theme of Love - a nice little theme and all, but I don't feel the love. Plus the transition back to the beginning is awful.

Within the Giant - what sets this track appart from every other dungeon theme is the noise from the beginning, and that is quickly subdued by the melody. :(

I feel sorry for the IV themes, they are going to be punished. How do you do the pairing Dave?

Pairings are made with the use of a random number generator. I don't pick which themes go up, the generator does. :) In that way, there is no human bias.

It's just a medley people... get over it. No, I kid... I really like it, but it is essentially just a medley. An awesome medley, but a medley all the same.

Within the Giant deserves some love. A very calming yet epic melody with a very mechanical harmony, yet it sounds so delicious. The Big Whale is great, but it is just soooooo short. ;_;

As for Theme of Love... I honestly don't know why TheShroud13 uses the word "cheesy" to describe so many tracks... but in this case, that's the only word that comes to mind.

The ending of FFVI for sure - nothing can compare to it.

The votes are still quite low, I hope this picks up over the next 6 hours or so!

"The Great Whale" is certainly worthy of a few votes, but alas, it has none! The melody is really nice, and it's pretty motivating. "Within the Giant" is probably my least favourite of the four themes. The rhythm just seems to have an annoying tint to it that I can just not abide. "Theme of Love" comes in third for me, with the melody also striking me as being pretty tedious. The theme develops nicely though, I admit. Last but not least, the marvelous "Ending Theme" is sure to run away as a the winner of this pairing. It gets my vote due to Uematsu's perfect transitions and captivating melodic line.

Why no love for the whale and giant? I mean, I love the Ending Theme and all, but these two just 'stand out.'
