Round 1, Battle 27 Discussion (July 12/13, 2006)

Still More Fighting gets my vote... I'm so sick of Aerith's Theme... bias, I know... but who cares? It's probably going through anyways.

I'd give a more in-depth opinion on all the tracks, but I really don't have the time.

Aerith's Theme - yeah, yeah, we all know this one. I don't like it very much, I'm much more fond of the Reunion arrangement.

Still More Fighting - more like "Still More Awesomeness" amirite *cough* Easily one of my favourite battle themes of the whole series, even after all these years. "Dancing Mad" has got nothing on this bad boy. Go, Uematsu!

Successful Attack - it's got a cool sense of urgency, and I like the way it's developed.

Welcome to Our Town - calm and cute, but there are better town themes. It doesn't get old fast, I'll give it that.

Vote for "Still More Fighting."

Aerith's Theme - a classic theme, but really there are so many better arrangements than the original.

Still More Fighting - not one of my favourite battle themes from the series, but not my least favourite either.

Successful Attack - Very different, with a nice sound to it.

Welcome to our Town - Not a fantastic theme, but it has a nice melody to it, and the pacing really works.

My vote goes for Welcome to our Town, only because out of these four themes, I liked it the best.

Aerith's Theme - Bah, this gets boring after awhile...not my vote.

Still More Fighting - Fantastic battle theme, and it has rock in it! Amazing!...gets my vote.

Successful Attack - I love the Front Mission music, and this one is very good. It can't surpass SMF though...not my vote.

Welcome to Our Town - Oh, how I hate town themes (except for some). This one is just, well, boring...and SHORT...not my vote.

I agree with Resk, there are so many better arrangments of Aerith's Theme then the original.

Still More Fighting is going to have to take my vote here. I've played Final Fantasy VII and this battle theme really grew on me.

Going to follow the flow here. "Still More Fighting" still has flair, but "Aerith's Theme" has lost its effect over time. I now just find it too sentimental.

The other two contenders both fulfil their purposes and are fairly worthy compositions, but don't have the special aura about them to be truly in the running.

Hoooooooly crap I'm voting for FFVII o_O Craziness!!!

Aerith's Theme - Aside from possibly "Eyes on Me", no FF tune makes me grab the air sickness bag more than "Aerith's Theme", which is a shame because I liked her character fairly well. Cheese at max power on this one. I never much liked it, and it's popularity has drawn whatever soul it had out of the piece.

Still More Fighting - <3 Uematsu's hardest rock track, and one of my favourites. I wish the guitar would have gotten more play in the tune, and had some lead instrument functionality, but it's still my favourite piece in this round. Vote goes here.

Successful Attack - It has some power, and some forceful feeling, but it isn't as memorable as the previous, and as such, doesn't get my vote.

Welcome to our Town - Yaaaawn. Not as cheesy as Aerith, but boring stuff. It's a good thing Final Fantasy games have adventures, because if they were sims like, I'd probably die from over exposure to boring town tunes.

Eep, less comments than usual!

"Welcome to Our Town" has one of the dullest melodies around, although it does have that 'cute' feel to it. It came fourth for me, just due to how uneventful it was. In third place, "Successful Attack" isn't a track that Uematsu should be proud of. It's way to cliched for my liking.

The winner for me this time is "Still More Fighting," which is one of Uematsu's best battle themes.
