There will be another casualty in the all-out war between Nobuo Uematsu's themes over the next 24 hours. What theme goes? You decide.

I'm gonna vote for "Matoya's Cave". Beautiful, beautiful melody.

*nods head firmly in agreement*

Definitely the best of Uematsu's classic themes, IMO, whereas "You're Not Alone" is merely great. :)

You're Not Alone is good, but there were other songs that I think deserved to be here instead. I am glad that Matoya's Cave has made it this far though :)

Matoya's Cave for me. I enjoy it's melody much more than I do "You're Not Alone."

Well, as much as I know my vote won't help, I have to give You're Not Alone my final salute. I'll miss you *sob*

I'll give my vote to You're Not Alone, even if it is a losing cause like Resk says, it has true strength and emotion. Matoya's theme is cute in terms of melody, but I can't put it above You're Not Alone.

Panned 8-bit music will always beat You're Not Alone.

Mind you, I didn't say Matoya's Cave, specifically. Just panned 8-bit music.

Because panned sine/cosine/trisine(lol) waves are always better.

When I first saw the two pieces I'd have to choose between, I was worried at the prospect of having to side against one of them. But after giving both themes a good hard listen, the answer is pretty clear. While Matoya's Theme clearly shows how much can be achieved with the NES's limited sound quality, it's still inferior to "You're Not Alone."
Both have fairly simple melodies and chord structures, but it is development-wise where "You're Not Alone" shines. Uematsu manages to bring the piece to an effective climax and drop quickly back to the beginning of the loop without sounding at all strange or abrubt. The same cannot be said of "Matoya's Theme," which is cute but jumps around a bit too much.

Sorry Matoya -- You're Not Alone gets my vote this round.

"Matoya's Cave" (along with most of FFI for that matter) has never held a particularly strong place in my heart. I like the melody, but it's never really evoked any mood or emotion in me.

"You're Not Alone" I've always liked. It comes off as pretty darned cheesy to me at times (read: when the awful guitar synth appears) I always found the main melody to be quite effective emotionally.

sine/cosine

Those are totally the same waveform :p

Yuk. I'm surprised "You're Not Alone" is putting up such a good fight. Thank goodness there's still 90 minutes of voting left. :)

I noticed the tie too, I'm getting pretty scared. In the event of a tie, I think it should come down to which got the most votes by forum members.

Which is currently 6-5 in Matoya's favor.

Some dodgy votes were thrown in the way of "You're Not Alone". But it's still a tie.

I agree with BM that it should come down to the votes by forum members. That's the only way to avoid 'cheaters'.

You're Not Alone (FFIX) 50.00 % (26)

Given quite a few suspect votes were given towards "You're Not Alone", particularly towards the end, and the poll draw contradicts with the forum's opinion, I'm declaring "Matoya's Cave" as the winner of this pairing.
