Round 4, Pairing 5: "F.F.VII Main Theme (FFVII)" vs. "The Stage is Set (FFVIII)"

Stage is Set. No Question. It's makes you feel pumped inside. Whenever I hear Main Theme, I swear the energizer bunny is running through the fields of FFVII's planet (by that I mean, it just keeps going and going...)

I'm actually voting or "Main Theme". Crazy huh? I really don't like "The Stage is Set" much at all, or "Main Theme" at that, but while "Main Theme" is boring as all hell and is a very poor main map composition - "The Stage is Set" has never done a thing to move me anywhere. Minimal melodic material and lots of da-da-dat patterns do not work it for me.

The Stage is Set is certainly a quality piece and it never ceases to fire me a little when I hear it. However, it's just not got enough to it to merit it to continue any further in the contest. For reasons I've mentioned before, Main Theme is the automatic choice anyway.

Even though I obviously am biased, harking from the Main Theme fanclub, I gotta question your reasoning. DC, are you voting for SiS just to help out the losing track? And Resk, is being tired of a piece really a legitimate reason to simply vote for the other without considering musicality, thematic development, programmatic effect blah blah?

Main Theme has just awsome progression; I've explained my full feelings on it before. Feeling lazy at the moment, so I'll just say Main Theme is really one of Nobuo's most memorable pieces. It certaintly deserves to go to the next round.

I don't really understand why people hate Main Theme so much... It's one of my favorite overworld themes mainly because it does keep going and still manages not to bore me. The way that it constantly changes eased my frustration (just a little) from hearing the battle music over and over again in between. I'm still not tired of it after hearing it so much, but that's just me. Anyway, I think it is a good song, no matter how much bashing it gets from other people. ;)

No, I actually like "Stage is Set" better. Plus, there's better versions of "Main Theme" out there. Fanboyism didn't take over this time.

I like "The Landing" more than "Stage is Set" and also FFVII main theme is one of the more enjoyable overworld themes for me.

Well Migglie, I figure I've given my reasons for not liking the track the past times that it's shown up in the contest. Personally, while it's a nice theme, it is boring. The instrumentation isn't all that varried, and other than being just a simple nice song to listen to, there's nothing in it that makes me want to hear it over and over again. So, when compared with Stage is Set, I find the latter to be more deserving of my vote, even though it likely won't make a difference in this contest.

Main Theme. It is the best overworld theme, me thinks - I like that it has a variety of moods in it, that shift from one to the other. It's great. :)

On musicality, I would vote for the Final Fantasy VII theme...but I love the energy of 'The stage is set'. The way it literally sets up the scene (and the stage apparently) is quite wonderful. It lends an incredible energy during that phase of the story and its quite a wonderful piece of music to behold during the adventure. However, I will go with the Final Fantasy VII theme in this case because it does more for me developmentally.
