Round 3, Pairing 16: "Cid's Theme (FFVII)" vs. "The Castle (FFVIII)"

I like both themes, but one thing that I always found particularly fun about 'The Castle' was it's multipleand varrying melodies and counter melodies. So, my votes goes for it!

"The Castle" has a good beginning, and when the organ and chords kick in at 0:53? Oh yes. Harpsichord/Clavi action? Evil oozes from it. Then it goes into that interlude with the bouncy melody and happy-rhythm. That completely ruined the mood and the rest of the track for me.

I'll take "Cid's Theme" today.

Like Cid's Theme vs. Kefka's Theme, we have one track that's good but generic and doesn't really reflect the character it's trying to portray. On the other hand we have a theme that's awesome, original, and adds a diversifying flair by changing moods three times during the piece. "The Castle" gets my vote.

Whereas Cid's Theme is just a melody (and a fairly corny one, in my opinion), "The Castle" is unique, well-developed, and all-round superb. It deserves to go on!

As long as my knowledge is correct, Kefka was placed against JENOVA in this round and beat it. So Kefka is still in the tournament. Where's this idea of Cid beating Kefka coming from?

Kefka really is the best character theme of Uematsu's, now that I think about it.

"The Castle" was actually one of my favourite Uematsu themes, despite its wannabe Baroque opening. I'll be sad to see it go.
