Classically trained video game composer Noriko Matsueda joined Square in 1994. He initially scored Front Mission, Bahamut Lagoon, and a battle theme for Chrono Trigger on the Super Nintendo. After a contribution to Tobal No. 1, she produced a well-developed acoustic score to the PlayStation's mech strategy game Front Mission Second.
For the racing RPG Racing Lagoon, Matsueda adopted a jazz fusion sound to represent illegal night racing in sprawling metropolises. The project also represented her first composing collaboration with her university friend Takahito Eguchi. The pair worked together once again on the brawler The Bouncer, mixing dramatic acoustic compositions with energetic rock, electronica, and jazz fusions.
After creating mostly jazzy pieces to accompany Square's PlayOnline viewer, Matsueda collaborated with Eguchi on Final Fantasy X-2. Its superficial score received a hostile response from many gamers, but was nevertheless commercially successful. After contributing to its extension soundtrack and piano collection, Matsueda retired from the games industry in 2004 due to exhaustion from her demanding job.
